A Completely Different Perspective
Mark 6:7-9 Jesus called his twelve apostles together. He sent them out in groups of two and gave them power over evil spirits. This is what he told them: “Take nothing for your trip except a stick for walking. Take no bread, no bag, and no money. You can wear sandals, but don’t take extra clothes.

Unless you happen to be exceptionally talented, wealthy and well-placed in this world, then you, like me, have no doubt experienced that sense of not having enough – be it in your finances, your resources, your own ability or in the help (or lack thereof) of those around you. And that “not enough” feeling … well, it ain’t all that nice, is it?
I remember twenty-one years ago when I stepped into the role of CEO of the organisation that now produces these devotional messages. There was absolutely not enough – we had virtually no financial support, no money in the bank, I’d never been involved in media before, so I seriously didn’t have a clue what to do, and there were no staff to help.
On top of which the ministry had completely stopped producing any radio messages (our core business). It was, quite clearly, time to turn off the life support such as it was, and let the patient die. I’m telling you, it was really bleak.
What I did recall at the time, though, was this story:
Mark 6:7-8 Jesus called his twelve apostles together. He sent them out in groups of two and gave them power over evil spirits. This is what he told them: “Take nothing for your trip except a stick for walking. Take no bread, no bag, and no money. You can wear sandals, but don’t take extra clothes.
He sent them out there with nothing. Nothing, that is, except His power and authority. Apparently, from His perspective, that was more than enough.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
