A Father’s Heart of Blessing

Genesis 26:24 The LORD spoke to him that night and said, "I am the God of your father Abraham. Don't be afraid. I am with you, and I will bless you. I will make your family great. I will do this because of my servant Abraham."

Have you ever wondered, “What’s God really like? When He looks at me, what does He see? What does He think of me?”

I’ve been a father for a good many years now. And looking back on it, I haven’t always done such a brilliant job of it. There’s no manual for being a perfect father with the pressures of work, providing for your family, dealing with difficult teenagers. We do the best we can, but you know how it goes.

And yet, as imperfect as I am, there’s one thing that’s never, ever changed in my heart. I’ve always wanted to bless my children. It’s just something that happens in a father’s heart, I guess.

People often wonder what God is actually like. When He looks at them, what does He see? What does He feel? I love the fact that through Jesus, God reveals Himself as our Father. So that has me thinking, if I, as imperfect as I am, want to bless my children, then how much more would God our Father want to bless us?

Genesis 26:24 The LORD spoke to him that night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Don’t be afraid. I am with you, and I will bless you. I will make your family great. I will do this because of my servant Abraham.”

The more you get to know God, your Father, the more you discover that He knows you better than you can ever know yourself. So He knows how to bless you in ways that you yourself, could never have imagined.

God’s heart, your Father’s heart, is to bless you. So …

Don’t be afraid. He is with you, and He will bless you.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
