A Lonely Affair
Psalm 138:8 Lord, I know you will do what you have promised. Lord, your faithful love will last forever. You are the one who made us, so don’t leave us!
So how will you spend your day today? Surrounded by people, or completely alone … or both? However today pans out for you, there’s one thing for certain. You won’t be alone.
Christmas can be something of a lonely affair for some; a time when we should be surrounded by loved ones, a time of celebration.
But it’s not always like that. I remember a Christmas twenty-five years ago to the day, when I found myself desperately alone. I woke up and went downstairs to make a cup of tea, but the emptiness, the silence, was so devastatingly profound.
So I sat down and spent some time with God. The tears just streamed down my face. I was desperately alone. And yet right in that place, as I spent that time with Him, I experienced something that’s hard to put into words.
My God was there and He filled me with His Presence and His love in such a special way. It was incredible. You know, over the years, I’ve found that the deeper my need, the more overwhelming is His love.
These days, I’m surrounded by a wonderful, fabulous family at Christmas but I shall never forget the wonder of that Christmas that I spent alone with my God all those years ago.
Psalm 138:8 Lord, I know you will do what you have promised. Lord, your faithful love will last forever. You are the one who made us, so don’t leave us!
So whatever your Christmas Day holds for you today, let me encourage you to take the opportunity to draw aside, alone with your God, and experience for yourself the wonder of His Presence, the wonder of His love.
And in so doing, may you and those whom you love have a truly blessed Christmas.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Having lost my beloved husband just over 5 yrs ago I so identify with your comments Berni. Without God I can’t imagine getting thru that. And my story runs even deeper than that huge unbelievable heartache. God has been my refuge, strength and the only one who has made it possible for me to survive, that I’m sure of. There has been no time that He didn’t improve a difficulty that befell me. But I have always believed in His presence and that is where the secret lies. My dear departed mum has influenced my belief in Jesus and it has remained w me the whole of my life. Without God I am nothing. With God I will survive anything and when my day arrives to leave this world… O HAPPY DAY!
