A Marriage is What You Make It
1 Peter 3:7 In the same way, you husbands should live with your wives in an understanding way, since they are weaker than you. You should show them respect, because God gives them the same blessing he gives you—the grace of true life. Do this so that nothing will stop your prayers from being heard.
Couples seem to be divorcing these days at an ever-increasing rate. Much is made of “compatibility” – you hear them say, We just realised we weren’t all that compatible. Really?
I actually wonder whether any two people on this planet can ever be completely compatible. And look, sure, before a man and a woman get married, they should talk about important things like having children, career aspirations, where they want to live and so on.
Absolutely, and if at that point they’re too far apart on too many issues, they simply shouldn’t marry. But once they are married, that’s it. Or at least it should be. And yet so many still do divorce based on “irreconcilable differences”. God, on the other hand, holds marriage in very high esteem.

What He’s saying to husbands here, is that by and large, their marriage is what they make it. If they don’t treat their wives well, if they don’t respect them, it’s not going to go well.
Let’s take a look at your marriage for a moment. What part has God called you to play? What can you give up to enrich (even to save) your marriage?
And just in case you missed it husbands, if you don’t do your bit towards your wife, God will stop hearing your prayers. That’s how seriously He takes this. Bottom line: your marriage is what you make it.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
