A Salutary Reminder

1 Peter 3:11,12 Stop doing what is wrong, and do good. Look for peace, and do all you can to help people live peacefully. The Lord watches over those who do what is right, and he listens to their prayers. But he is against those who do evil.”

Good and evil – we all know the difference … or do we? It’s like black and white obviously … or do we prefer shades of grey? What do you think?

Here’s what almost always seems to happen. When it comes to judging the actions of others, we’re pretty black and white about them, about what they said or did, or failed to do.

But when it comes to judging ourselves – our thoughts, our motivations, our words, our actions – more often than not, we never even think about them; we never judge them, and on the rare occasion that we do … well, let’s whitewash over some of that black. What’s wrong with a bit of off-white or a lighter shade of grey anyway?

But for God, things are much more straightforward – which is either good news or bad, depending on where you sit.

1 Peter 3:11,12 Stop doing what is wrong, and do good. Look for peace, and do all you can to help people live peacefully. The Lord watches over those who do what is right, and he listens to their prayers. But he is against those who do evil.”

We all have a bit of a tendency to allow compromises to sneak into our lives and, without noticing, the peace we once had evaporates. The things God once blessed us with, the answers to prayer that used to flow so readily, are no more. There’s a reason for that.

The Lord watches over those who do what is right, and he listens to their prayers. But he is against those who do evil.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
