Battle After Battle
Deuteronomy 6:18,19 You must do what is right and good—what pleases the Lord. Then everything will go well for you, and you can go in and take the good land that the Lord promised your ancestors. And you will force out all your enemies, just as the Lord said.
It’s one thing for God to promise us stuff – and He makes a lot of promises in His Word. It’s another thing entirely for us to experience those promises; to live in those promises day by day, wouldn’t you agree?
So many things in life promise so much … and yet, so many of them fail to deliver. Success can be hollow. Relationships can disappoint. And sadly, for many, that kind of sums up their experience of God as well.
Jesus seemed to promise so much – peace, joy, an abundant life – yet somehow the experience can fall short of the promise.
It must have felt a bit like that for Israel; after centuries in slavery in Egypt, followed by forty years wandering in the wilderness, they were about to cross over into the land that God promised Abraham all those years before – the Promised Land.
But as they looked ahead into that promise, all they could see was a whole bunch of tribes and nations that already owned it. There’d have to be battle after battle to take this “Promised Land”.
Could this really be one of God’s promises? And if so, how could they take hold of it in the face of all this opposition?
Here’s how God answered those questions:
Deuteronomy 6:18,19 You must do what is right and good—what pleases the Lord. Then everything will go well for you, and you can go in and take the good land that the Lord promised your ancestors. And you will force out all your enemies, just as the Lord said.
And so, as they fought battle after battle, they experienced the faithfulness of God firsthand. They took hold of what God had promised.
You must do what is right and good—what pleases the Lord. Then everything will go well for you.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

A life built on total surrender to God yield itself to the plans and purpose God has in store. However, we have a part to play in order to benefit. It takes WILLINGNESS/OBEDIENCE to God to eat the good of the land and have good success. So basically there are conditions to receiving from God. Even a non-Christian is at liberty by God’s grace to receive from Him. The exchange would for example be, the heart condition of such a one. Though NOT fully surrendered the posture of his heart would stir God to move on his behalf. Now having experience that move of God may drive such a one to TOTAL SURRENDER to God. Just my thoughts though and i really enjoyed it. Much to think about.

This is indeed so true and speaking to my situation – I have not been doing what is right and good and what pleases the Lord. Everything has gone so bad but my prayer is that He may help me now to do that which is right so that I may hold His promises. I know it will take a while before I could see the realisation of the promises but I pray for His patience and perseverance in the whole matter.
Thank you for sharing the word. You always speak to my situation.
