Come to Jesus
Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
If ever there was a time in human history when ordinary folk like you and me needed to relearn, to rediscover, the art of rest, it’d have to be here, now, today. With all the technology crowding in on us, our constant connectedness the outside world, the bright little screens disrupting our sleep patterns … yep, today’s the day.
Between emails, SMS’s, WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter (or ‘X’ as it’s now called) not to mention good old-fashioned telephone calls and all those daily stresses of life, there’s enough there to keep us dancing to other people’s tunes 24/7.
It’s cumulative. It presses in on you. It kind of leaves you gasping for air.
We’ve talked rather a lot about pressure, stress and rest these last couple of weeks. But today, I’d like to finish things off with the most important thing, the most powerful thing that I can possibly share with you. True rest … not by running away from things, but by discovering it smack-bang in the middle of all you have going on. Jesus said …
Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (NRSV)
The longer we’re forced to carry life’s burdens, the heavier they get. But the Jesus who suffered and died for you, the One who rose again to give you a new life, today He’s calling you to Himself. Listen to Him again, carefully, deliberately. Let it sink in …
Learn from me; for I’m gentle and humble in heart, and you’ll find rest for your souls.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
