Don’t be Invisible

Philippians 2:14-15 Do everything without complaining or arguing so that you will be blameless and pure, children of God without any fault. But you are living with evil people all around you, who have lost their sense of what is right. Among those people you shine like lights in a dark world

So let me ask you … do you like standing out from the crowd, being noticed, or would you rather just blend into the background? It’s an interesting question, because often the answer depends on which way the wind’s blowing, how you’re feeling, what mood you’re in.

I was watching well known psychologist Jordan Peterson on YouTube recently when he said this: “People don’t want to succeed, they just don’t want to fail. They don’t aim to be happy, they just don’t want to suffer. So they stay in the middle of the herd. They want to be invisible and be left alone.”

That may well be, but every now and then we all want to be acknowledged and appreciated. Is that prideful, is it wrong … or is it just a normal part of being human?

Some seem to want to show off and we all know how ugly that is. Others do indeed want to hide, to be invisible, meaning that all too often the rest of us miss out on all they have to offer. How do you get that balance right?

We are indeed surrounded by way too much self-promotion, way too much evil. But in the midst of all that, don’t be invisible either. Let your goodness shine like a light in this dark world.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
