Don’t Overestimate Your Problems

Isaiah 40:25-26 “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.

When you’re faced with a problem, it’s really easy to overestimate its magnitude. The more grief it causes you, the bigger it becomes. It’s only natural. What’s needed here is a sense of perspective.

So, here goes. If the sun was hollow, you’d be able to fit 1.3 million earths inside. Just let that sink in – 1.3 million! Yet the sun’s classified as only a medium-sized star in the known universe.

The best estimate that astronomers have been able to come up with thus far is that there appears to be around 200 billion trillion stars in the known universe. Right about now I’m feeling pretty small … how about you?

And into all that, God speaks:

Isaiah 40:25-26 “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. (NIV)

So let’s get back to wrapping a sense of perspective around that problem we’re each facing at the moment. Do you imagine for one moment that the God who created these 200 billion trillion stars, the God who knows them each by name, isn’t capable of stepping in to help you with your problem, hmm?

He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
