Dying and Living

2 Corinthians 5:17 When anyone is in Christ, it is a whole new world. The old things are gone; suddenly, everything is new!

Looking back on Easter, what was it all about again? What did we just celebrate back there on Good Friday and Easter Sunday? What was the point of it all?

Easter, when you think about it, is about dying and living. It’s about Jesus dying on the cross to pay for all the things that you and I have done in rebelling against God and rising again to give us a new life.

Let’s just run through that again, slowly. That death happened to pay the price that the innate justice of God demands, for your rebellion and mine against Him. The wages of sin are death.

That resurrection happened to give us victory over death, starting here and now. That resurrection happened to give us a new life, starting here and now. A life that will go on for ever and ever without end. All because of Jesus.

So many people celebrate Easter without ever entering into the death and the resurrection of Jesus. It’s not complicated. Actually, it’s very simple. God sent Jesus to pay for our sin – believe in that, and you’re forgiven.

That’s where most people think it ends. Good, I believe, I’m into heaven. But believing and forgiveness are just the beginning. God wants a new life for us.

And that means, not just going to the Cross with Jesus and dying to the things that constituted our rebellion against Him.

But also going through that empty tomb to rise to a new life, a new self. Clean and pure and ready for a new life.

2 Corinthians 5:17 When anyone is in Christ, it is a whole new world. The old things are gone; suddenly, everything is new!

That’s Easter. That’s it.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
