Equipped for the Job

Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (ESV)

We hate to admit it, but sometimes, our circumstances get the better of us; they overwhelm us, to the point when nothing we try, nothing we do seems to get us back on top again. And in the middle of that, we need a different approach.

Life gets pretty complicated sometimes. Just the ordinary, everyday things – bringing up your children, managing your finances, juggling your commitments, trying to get everything done.

There’s no getting away from it. Wherever you live, whatever you do, whoever you are, the pressures and stresses and even sometimes the fear of surviving in the jungle, well, it gets to you some days.

So what we do, is that we try to think it through, to get ourselves organised. But even that sometimes isn’t enough. So we overthink things, and that just leads us to the point of despair because even with all the planning, all the thinking, somehow, we still can’t figure it out.

Don’t get me wrong. I believe that you and I should take responsibility for the stuff we have going on in our lives. We should try to get our act together. But when that’s not enough, overthinking, worrying, running around in circles simply isn’t the answer. So what is?

Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (ESV)

When it’s all too much, we need to take a different approach; to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and at the same time, take our foot off that overthinking pedal. So instead of relying on our own, limited, often flawed and inadequate understanding, just keep on plugging way, honouring God in everything we do and here it is … He will straighten things out.

That’s the promise.

And that’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
