Faithful Forever

Psalm 138:8 LORD, I know you will do what you have promised. LORD, your faithful love will last forever. You are the one who made us, so don’t leave us!

I came across a ridiculous article in my news feed recently written by a woman extolling the benefits of an open marriage – a marriage where she and her husband were free to date and sleep with other people.

When you hear someone mention “traditional family values” it’s easy to think, “Oh dear. Here’s some old-fashioned whacko who wants to turn the clock back to the 1950’s.”

But when you’re part of a family that’s working as God intended, even amidst the squabbles that happen as we each come to grips with loving imperfect people, it’s such a mighty blessing.

And the thing that gets you through those rough patches, big or small, is the faithfulness of each family member to the others – especially the exclusive faithfulness between husband and wife. It’s utterly unimaginable how the unfaithfulness implicit in a so-called “open marriage” would undermine and destroy the bond of love.

In fact, when you think about it, unwavering faithfulness is the lynchpin of love; it’s what holds it all together through thick and thin.  And the source of that faithfulness is God Himself. Writes the psalmist …

Psalm 138:8 LORD, I know you will do what you have promised. LORD, your faithful love will last forever. You are the one who made us, so don’t leave us!

It matters not that you stumble from time to time. God’s promises are true. His faithfulness toward you will go on forever. Whatever struggles you may be facing, know this – your God is faithful. Always.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
