Forgive and Forget

Luke 6:37 Don’t judge others, and God will not judge you. Don’t condemn others, and you will not be condemned. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven.

I wonder, today, whether we might take a moment to prod around in your heart. What hurt from the past is still eating away at you? Toward whom are you still, perhaps, harbouring unforgiveness?

It’s an absolute certainty in life that we’re going to be hurt by other people. It happens to each one of us on a regular basis. It’s simply a fact of life. You can’t avoid it. But what you can do, is to stop it from ruining your life.

When we let the hurts of the past continue to eat away at us, it’s like giving the person who hurt us in the first place, some rent-free space in our hearts and in our minds, to keep on hurting us. When we keep on reliving that hurt, when we continue with the anger, the resentment, the desire for revenge, that hurt from the past keeps on hurting us. It just doesn’t make sense. So, what’s the alternative? What’s the answer?

Luke 6:37 Don’t judge others, and God will not judge you. Don’t condemn others, and you will not be condemned. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven.

Forgiveness is a big thing for God. Huge! After all, that’s why He sent Jesus to die for you and me on that Cross, so that we could be forgiven.

Our forgiveness cost Jesus His life. Forgiveness is always painful. It’s never easy. It always costs you something. But when you stop judging, when you stop condemning, when you decide to forgive others, even to pray for your enemies, God does something powerful in your heart.

The Holy Spirit brings healing and peace. Feel free, give it a spin. It actually works.

Unless of course you want the hurt to keep on hurting.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
