Freedom at Last
2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (NRSV)
Freedom. Now there’s a word that we all love … yet it means different things to different people at different times. I wonder, what does it mean to you, here, today? What would you like to be set free from?
The realities of life in this imperfect world mean that we all end up carrying burdens from which we long to be set free. An obligation, a situation, a relationship that just drags on. Lord, set me free!
But life’s never going to be perfect. There’s unlikely ever to be a time when there’s nothing going on that you’d rather not have there. Yep, there always seems to be something.
So what if, in the midst of all you’re going through, those burdens could be lifted, you experience freedom despite them.
2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (NRSV)
Jesus came to set you free. In particular, free from the burdens of meeting up to God’s standard of perfection (which none of us ever seem to be able to do, right?!) Free from the bad stuff we get into that robs us of the abundant life that Jesus Himself said He came to bring us. Free to be all He made us to be.
There is nothing sweeter, with all the things that seem to press in on you, with all the burdens that want to heap themselves on your shoulders, than experiencing the wonder of the freedom that Jesus came to bring you. Because now, the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
