From Dreams to Reality

Proverbs 14:23 If you work hard, you will have plenty. If you do nothing but talk, you will not have enough.

I don’t know about you, but I love daydreaming – imagining the things I feel inspired to do; turning them over in my mind, watching them form, then morph, then re-form. Yep, dreaming’s a lot of fun. But there’s a huge distance between the dream and seeing it become a reality.

Howard Schultz was born into a poor, working-class family in Brooklyn, New York, in 1953. He grew up in a tough neighbourhood. While working for a Swedish kitchen company, Schultz noticed that some small outfit in Seattle called Starbucks was ordering up a large number of coffee makers.

Inspired and impressed, he joined them in a management role, later leaving to form his own coffee chain, Il Giornale. But in 1987, Schultz bought Starbucks and went on to transform it from a small regional operation into a global coffee empire.

His journey from a poor upbringing in Brooklyn to building a global megabrand is testament to the power of vision (yes) but also perseverance and sheer hard work.

It’s been said that the distance between your dreams and reality is called ‘action’.

Proverbs 14:23 If you work hard, you will have plenty. If you do nothing but talk, you will not have enough.

Dreaming is great, but it ain’t enough. In God’s economy, absolutely He expects us to listen to Him, to obey Him and to have faith in Him to do mighty things.

But He also expects us to work hard at it (whatever ‘it’ happens to be for you). Because if you work hard, you’ll have plenty. But if you do nothing but talk, you won’t have enough.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
