From Father to Son

1 Chronicles 28:9 And you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father. Serve God with a pure heart. Be happy to serve him, because the LORD knows what is in everyone’s heart. He knows what you are thinking. If you go to him for help, you will get an answer. But if you turn away from him, he will leave you forever.

One of the more special relationships we can have in this life is as a parent – not everyone of course, but most. And even if you’re not a parent, it’s not difficult to imagine how special that relationship is.

And as parents we want the very best for our children. So, parent or not, what sort of wisdom would you want to pass on to your child? What would be your very best piece of advice for them to carry them forward in life, long after you’re gone?

In his latter days, King David of Israel passed on this pearl of wisdom to his son, Solomon.

It’s as simple as it is powerful. With all your heart, with every fibre of your being, know God and serve Him. And do it with a pure heart, a good heart, a grateful heart. Because when you’re in that place, He knows, and you can turn to Him for help.

What a wondrous thing it is to be able to go to God for help and get the answers you need … when your heart towards Him, towards those around you, towards life itself is pure.

Friend, wherever you’re at, right at this moment, whatever you have going on, heed David’s advice. Allow the Holy Spirit to use it to soften your heart.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
