Holy Spirit Power
2 Thessalonians 2:13 Brothers and sisters, you are people the Lord loves. And we always thank God for you. That’s what we should do, because God chose you to be some of the first people to be saved. You are saved by the Spirit making you holy and by your faith in the truth.
As you and I simply get on with life, it’s kind of easy to drift away from what we’ve believed; what, at the core of our being, we’ve held to be true; what really mattered to us way back when but somehow it’s all been crowded out by the stuff that presses in on us day to day.
Back in the early 17th century, Dutch sailor Pieter van der Linde and a few of his crew were caught in a storm that separated them from their ship. Thinking they were near the coast, they sailed on not realising that, in fact, they were drifting farther out to sea.
For days they survived on limited provisions, thinking that rescue or landfall was near. Their peril only became clear when a Portuguese vessel spotted and rescued them, revealing just how far they’d drifted.
That was not all that uncommon back in the so-called ‘Age of Exploration’, when sailors often didn’t realise just how lost they were until they were saved. And the very same thing can happen to us. But …
2 Thessalonians 2:13 Brothers and sisters, you are people the Lord loves. And we always thank God for you. That’s what we should do, because God chose you to be some of the first people to be saved. You are saved by the Spirit making you holy and by your faith in the truth.
It’s amazing when we’ve unwittingly drifted so far, when we find ourselves surviving on meagre rations, thirsting for … something, how the Holy Spirit reaches out to save us. Perhaps that’s even what’s happening for you right now.
You’re saved by the Spirit!
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
