How to Recognise a Lie

Psalm 86:11 Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.

When you think about it, our ability to recognise a particular path as being crooked only exists because we’re able to compare it to a straight path. And to do that, you have to know what a straight path looks like.

In the same way, if you don’t know the truth, you’ll never be able to recognise a lie. And sadly, too many people are being duped by lies. The lie that wealth can make you happy has caused so much pain. The lie that our feelings trump the truth is another that’s leading many astray.

The list goes on. And so many of these truths are so seductive that we hang on to them, even when deep down we suspect that something may not be quite right.

Question, then: how do we recognise those devilish lies for what they are? How can we be set free from the destruction that they’ll inevitably bring? Answer …

Psalm 86:11 Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. (ESV)

We turn the deepest desires of our hearts over to God. We ask Him to teach us His way, lead us down His path, so that we might walk in the only truth that matters. His truth.

We ask Him to work in our hearts to overcome that tug-of-war between good and evil, to unite the desires of our heart, that we might fear His name; that we might want, above all, His will to be done in our lives as it is in Heaven.

Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
