I Ache for You

Romans 15:13 I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace as you trust in him. Then you will have more and more hope, and it will flow out of you by the power of the Holy Spirit.

How can a dead Jesus, in a dark tomb two thousand something years ago, make a difference to our lives here and now? How can the Easter story possibly turn your life and mine upside down? Well, let me tell you – it can and it will!

Anyone who’s ever had children … well, you’ll know that feeling when the child you love so much is suffering. And you look at them with an ache in your heart and think to yourself, “If only I could take their pain away. If only I could carry their pain so that they could be free from it.”

The things that I’ve done wrong in my life, and those that you’ve done wrong in yours, have invariably had consequences, have invariably caused us pain. That’s the stuff that God calls “sin”.

And because He’s a Dad, because He loves us beyond words, He sent His Son Jesus to die on that cross for us, to carry our pain, to suffer the consequences of our sin on our behalf, so that we can be free to live a life of peace and of joy through a relationship with Him. Free.

Stop. Remember. God is our Dad, He loves us and so when you look at this whole Easter through His eyes, it makes such incredible sense, doesn’t it?

Romans 15:13 I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace as you trust in him. Then you will have more and more hope, and it will flow out of you by the power of the Holy Spirit.

As God ached for you on that Cross, He gave you a way to have the future that He’d always planned for you; a future filled with hope, with much joy and with peace as you trust in what Jesus did for you.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
