I Rejoice in This
Psalm 119:14-16 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.
There’s something quite amazing, intoxicating even, in setting out to do what’s right and actually doing it; knowing in your heart of hearts that you’ve done good. I strongly suspect it was always meant to be so.
You know how it goes – in any given situation, there’s always that temptation to cut corners, compromising your integrity for the sake of expediency, putting your finger on the scale to achieve an outcome that’s more favourable to you.
We do that because we know we’ll probably get away with it. And the more we get away with it, the more emboldened we become next time round.
But though you may “win”, though you may get what you wanted, deep down inside you always know, don’t you?
Here’s a man who’s discovered the intoxicating joy of simply getting about doing the right thing, time after time, as he prays to God.
Psalm 119:14-16 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word. (NIV)
What this fellow’s saying is that doing what’s right in God’s eyes, once you get the hang of it, is like winning the lottery. And the more you experience that buzz, the more you think about it, the more you turn it over in your mind … the more you end up delighting in God’s ways. It really is quite addictive, this thing of doing good in God’s eyes, in the very best way.
I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
