Just Because You Can …
Proverbs 12:18 Speak without thinking, and your words can cut like a knife. Be wise, and your words can heal.

There seems to me to be two types of people in this world – those who’re smart enough to hold their tongue, to hold fire when something unexpected happens and those whose tongue is on a hair trigger, who just blurt out whatever they’re thinking, often to their own detriment.
And sad to say, I happen quite naturally to fall into the second category. If you’ve been tuning into or receiving Fresh for a while, you might have noticed that I’m pretty good with words. That’s not a boast, it’s just how I’m made.
But that has an ugly underbelly. My words can carve someone in two at thirty paces; my sharp tongue has on numerous occasions reduced grown men to tears … something that these days I deeply regret.
How about you? How prone are you to blurting out something that stings the soul of the other person; that undermines, destroys relationships? And when was the last time you did that without even thinking? How do you feel about it now that we’re talking about it; now that we’re bringing it out into the light?
Proverbs 12:18 Speak without thinking, and your words can cut like a knife. Be wise, and your words can heal.
Just because something pops into your head, it doesn’t mean it should come out of your mouth. And for those who are quick with words, quick to summon up a caustic retort, remember … just because you can, it doesn’t mean you should.
Speak without thinking, and your words can cut like a knife. But be wise, and your words can heal.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
