Knock Knock
Revelation 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with you. And you will eat with me.
Honestly, it can feel sometimes as though God is a million miles away. And yet, nothing could be further from the truth.
We all played games as children, and one of my favourites was “Knock, knock, who’s there”. But did you know there’s also a “knock, knock” in the Bible? Yeah, sure there is, but this one, this one’s no joke. In fact, it’s one of the most deeply profound and serious “knock, knock’s” you’ll ever come across. It’s spoken by Jesus to you and me.
Revelation 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with you. And you will eat with me.
We have all sorts of misconceptions about who this God really is. Everything between an old man with a big stick, ready to pounce on our every wrongdoing with cosmic punishment, through to a soft, fluffy, cuddly Jesus, ready to pander to our every whim and weakness.
And yet, here, in this simple, knock, knock verse, we discover exactly who He is. Not some distant God, a million miles away in the air-conditioned comfort of heaven. Not some God who’ll dance to our tune. But a God who, having taken on skin and bones to be like you and me, having been brutally nailed to a cross to save you and me, comes knocking at our door, wanting to sit down over a meal and talk about stuff – the God who wants to engage with us, to be part of our lives, to share His wisdom and understanding.
Who would ever have thought that He’d be that interested in what’s going on in our lives?
Knock, knock. Who’s there? Jesus.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
