Let Gratitude Flood Your Heart

Ephesians 5:20 Always give thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Things don’t need to be going all that badly in our lives for us to want to throw ourselves a pity party. “Poor old me.” Don’t get me wrong, I’m not making fun of the trials you’re facing. They’re all too real, I get that. But chronic self-pity is perhaps one of the most destructive forces known to humanity. It’ll consume you.

John McCain was a US Navy pilot shot down over Hanoi on a bombing run in 1967 during the Vietnam war. He was captured and over the next five years as a POW, he endured severe torture and solitary confinement.

Despite those protracted, brutal conditions, after his release McCain spoke often of his deep sense of gratitude for the support and camaraderie of his fellow POWs. That gratitude went on to change his life.

After completing his naval service, he eventually became a US Senator. Throughout his political career, McCain’s gratitude for his fellow POWs and his experiences in Vietnam influenced his approach to leadership, often emphasising the importance of unity, resilience, and bipartisan cooperation.

What are you facing right now that threatens to engulf you in self-pity; that’s trying its darndest to drag you down into a sea of negative emotions?

Ephesians 5:20 Always give thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

When does God want you to give thanks? Always. What does He want you to give thanks for? Everything. It’s amazing how powerfully God will work through an attitude of gratitude to transform our lives.

There’s always something to be grateful for.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you …today.
