Low Self-Esteem

Luke 4:18,19 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me. He has chosen me to tell good news to the poor. He sent me to tell prisoners that they are free and to tell the blind that they can see again. He sent me to free those who have been treated badly and to announce that the time has come for the Lord to show his kindness.”

I spent much of my life worrying about what other people thought of me, trying to put on a brave front. But gnawing away, deep down inside, was the certain knowledge that I’d never be as good as the next guy.

The experts will tell you that statistically over fifty percent of all women suffer from low self-esteem – fifty percent, and plenty of men as well! It’s amazing, it’s tragic, that in a world filled with all kinds of glossy images of success so many people have a chronic sense that they fall short – that somehow they don’t measure up to the brand of success peddled in this world.

It’s like a nagging sense of inadequacy, a lonely wasteland of self-doubt and uncertainty, the fear that people might find out the truth that you’re not as good as you look on the outside.

It just eats away you, it’s debilitating, and it robs you of life. Jesus said this:

Luke 4:18,19 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me. He has chosen me to tell good news to the poor. He sent me to tell prisoners that they are free and to tell the blind that they can see again. He sent me to free those who have been treated badly and to announce that the time has come for the Lord to show his kindness.”

If you relate even just a little bit to that whole low self-esteem thing, then let me share this good news with you. The one place in which you’ll find unconditional acceptance, the one place you can be set completely free, the one place you can discover who you were really meant to be – is in Jesus.

He came to bring you good news, to set you free, to help you see things as they really are.

Jesus.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
