Make No Mistake
1 Timothy 3:4-5 He must be a good leader of his own family. This means that his children obey him with full respect. If a man does not know how to lead his own family, he will not be able to take care of God’s church.
The roles of men and women in running a household and raising a family have changed rather a lot over the last couple of generations. Frankly, the idea of the stay-at-home mum has become a distant historical artefact.
Now, let me say upfront, if you’re a stay-at-home mum, or dad for that matter, all power to you! But that’s simply not the reality for many.
So the respective roles of men and women in the family unit have changed. Men often find that confusing because it’s at odds with what they grew up with – the way their parents ran things. As a result, many men feel that they no longer have a license to lead the way their dads did.
Now, I’m not talking about men lording it over their wives or families – never that – but about them bringing their natural strength to the table for the benefit of the whole family.
So let’s dive into God’s Word – this comes to us in the context of a discussion about the qualifications of men in becoming church leaders. But it’s really quite insightful and instructive:
1 Timothy 3:4-5 He must be a good leader of his own family. This means that his children obey him with full respect. If a man does not know how to lead his own family, he will not be able to take care of God’s church.
Make no mistake, God made men and women quite differently. Equal, but different. So men, please don’t abdicate your role as a good leader in your family. And women, don’t be afraid to allow him to lean in with his natural strengths for your benefit and your children’s.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
