Mercy Me
Luke 1:78,79 “With the loving mercy of our God, a new day from heaven will shine on us. It will bring light to those who live in darkness, in the fear of death. It will guide us into the way that brings peace.”
Mercy is not something that we talk a lot about. Oh, we might do, in a “Christianity”, religious kind of way … after the Sunday sermon. But somehow, God’s mercy isn’t something that seems all that relevant in life out there.
It’s a rough and tumble world that we live in, isn’t it? Politics, the economy, work, even home. There’s conflict, there are compromises and trade-offs. It’s just how it is and I guess, at the end of the day, we go with the flow. Am I right?
But when you ask someone in a quiet moment what they really want out of life, most will tell you that deep down they want fulfilment, love and good relationships – the sort of relationships that last – where people give you room to make mistakes, and yet at the end of the day they still love you anyway.
That’s what most of us want out of life. But how do you get that in this rough and tumble world?
Jesus talked a lot about mercy. And why wouldn’t He? It was for that very reason that He took our punishment on that cross, so that God could pour His mercy out on the likes of you and me.
And that mercy is meant to make a powerful difference in our lives, here and now.
Luke 1:78,79 With the loving mercy of our God, a new day from heaven will shine on us. It will bring light to those who live in darkness, in the fear of death. It will guide us into the way that brings peace.
That’s what God’s mercy does. It’s like a new day from heaven shining on you. No matter how dark things get, God’s mercy is your light to take away the fear and guide you into His peace. Mercy.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
