Old-Fashioned Wisdom (3)

Titus 2:5 They will teach them to be wise and pure, to take care of their homes, to be kind, and to be willing to serve their husbands. Then no one will be able to criticise the teaching God gave us.

Okay, today … today we’re going for a super dose of the politically incorrect. And it comes straight out of God’s Word. In fact, it’s something of a flashpoint between a biblical and a contemporary secular world view.

So that’s the role of a woman in today’s world. Well, that depends rather a lot on where you live. Different cultures take different roads in this regard, but increasingly, women seem to be holding down two jobs – a career and also a homemaker.

Yesterday we chatted about the role of older women – to be a role model for the younger women in society to teach them what is good. But now for the intensely, politically incorrect bit:

Titus 2:5 They will teach them to be wise and pure, to take care of their homes, to be kind, and to be willing to serve their husbands. Then no one will be able to criticise the teaching God gave us.

Back when that was written in the 1st Century AD, a woman’s role was in the home; to cook, clean, make babies and bring them up. Things have changed rather a lot since then. So … what do we do with this verse of scripture here in the 21st Century AD, hmm?

Even though the context has changed, women still have a powerful, prominent role in family life. As a husband, I love serving my wife. And as a wife, my wife loves serving me. We do it in quite different ways, but still we serve one another, we take care of one another, the way we were always meant to do.

So, women, be wise, be pure, take care of your homes, be kind and be willing to serve your husbands.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
