Open Heart Surgery
Hebrews 4:12 God’s word is alive and working. It is sharper than the sharpest sword and cuts all the way into us. It cuts deep to the place where the soul and the spirit are joined. God’s word cuts to the centre of our joints and our bones. It judges the thoughts and feelings in our hearts.
Can I ask you today, when you need help with a problem, perhaps even one of your own doing, where do you go, where do you turn? Who do you automatically go to for help?
These days, quite a few people end up having open heart surgery. Because of all the sugary, processed rubbish they’ve been eating, the arteries around their heart have clogged up with plaque, and so they need bypass surgery to avoid the devastation of a heart attack.
And whilst open heart surgery is relatively routine these days, I’m guessing that if you needed it, you’d be selecting your heart surgeon pretty carefully.
Sin does that to your heart too, doesn’t it? It clogs up your insides with all sorts of rubbish that drains the life out of you. So much so, that eventually, it will kill you. But God has a sharp scalpel to deal with it. He has hands that are more skilled than any surgeon that this world has to offer:
Hebrews 4:12 God’s word is alive and working. It is sharper than the sharpest sword and cuts all the way into us. It cuts deep to the place where the soul and the spirit are joined. God’s word cuts to the centre of our joints and our bones. It judges the thoughts and feelings in our hearts.
So if sin is draining the life out of you, if it’s killing you, the place to go is God’s Word – day after day. It’s amazing how it cleans you out on the inside.
People go looking for answers in all sorts of places. The world seems to hold out some pretty attractive, pretty seductive answers to our problems, doesn’t it?
Me? I prefer to select my heart surgeon very carefully indeed.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
