Our Heart’s Desire

Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. (ESV)

We all have things on our wish-list. Things that we’d really, really like to have. So, here’s a question for you today. Does God want to give you the things that are on your wish-list? Hmm?

It’s easy to get the feeling that being a Christian is about following a whole bunch of rules. Do this, don’t do that and yes, there are things that God tells us not to do.

It’s a bit like being a parent, really. You love your kids, you want to bless them, but there are some things that you don’t want them to do, because those things are just plain wrong. And when they do those things your desire to bless them simply evaporates. It’s just the way things work.

And right there is your clue to unlocking the blessing of God in your life. Obedience brings blessing. It’s true in our human relationships and it’s equally true in our relationship with God.

Here’s how it works; an amazing promise to you about God’s blessing, straight from His Word:

Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. (ESV)

That’s an outrageous promise … God will give you, yes, you, the desires of your heart. How can He make such a sweeping, far-reaching, almost dangerous promise? Simple. He knows that when you delight yourself in Him, when the yearning of your heart is to enjoy His Presence, when the focus of your heart is to be close to Him, when a fire burns in your heart to please Him in all that you do, then the desires of your heart will change. The desires of your heart will, all of a sudden, be in line with His will.

Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Thank you so much, this is so good! This psalm has never been explained so well to me. <3
