Out Pops the Answer
Proverbs 20:5 The purposes in the human mind are like deep water, but the intelligent will draw them out.
One of the things that amazes me is the creativity that God’s planted inside each one of us. Just when you have no idea how to take something forward – you stop and think and pray and … out pops the answer.
Somehow it was always there, we just hadn’t dug deep enough.
Have you ever had that happen? It’s amazing when it does. Sometimes the answer lies inside you and other times it lies in the creativity and the imagination of someone else.
I was working on a business problem with a couple of guys just recently. I was sharing something that I’d seen in another business – and in a flash, Keith grabbed a hold of that in a fresh way and out popped the answer to our problem.
How does that happen?
The purposes in the human mind are like deep water, but the intelligent will draw them out. (Proverbs 20:5)
You and I are much deeper, much more creative and much more capable of working through things, than we sometimes give ourselves credit for. But here’s the thing, it takes work, it takes effort to think things through.
Let’s just dig a bit deeper into that Scripture for a moment. The purposes of the human mind … we all have things we hope for, things we dream of seeing happen. The human mind, it seems, doesn’t have too many problems in coming up with purposes, with directions, with plans, with objectives.
What we don’t realise though is that those purposes run much deeper than we think. Some people never go beyond the surface, and those are the people who never realise their goals. There are lots of people who live their whole lives with unfulfilled dreams and ambitions.
Dreams don’t just magically materialise. Ambitions aren’t magically realised. That’s why the second part of this verse is so important – the intelligent will draw them out. In other words, we have to think about things. We have to use the mind that God’s given us, the intelligence He’s planted inside each one of us.
Your intelligence is no doubt different to mine. But God has blessed each one of us with just the intelligence we need to do what He’s called us to do. And when you sit and think, when you mull things over, when you knock ideas around with friends, eventually that effort produces results.
Eventually, out pops the answer.
It was there all along, we just had to use our brains to dig below the surface, to go deep, to find it. Remember:
The purposes in the human mind are like deep water, but the intelligent will draw them out. (Proverbs 20:5)
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
