Peace All Around

1 Kings 4:24,25 Solomon ruled over all the countries west of the Euphrates River, from Tiphsah to Gaza. And Solomon had peace along all the borders of his kingdom. During Solomon’s life everyone in Judah and Israel, all the way from Dan to Beersheba, lived in peace and security. The people were at peace sitting under their own fig trees and grapevines.

I wonder, what battles are you facing at the moment? A struggling marriage, just keeping your head above water financially, low self-esteem, a lurking sense of dread about the future? Whatever it is, it robs you of your peace.

Of course, we all travel through different seasons in life. There are times when everything’s toddling along just fine. And there are times when they ain’t. And even when on the surface all seems calm, on the inside where we live, where we feel, where we ruminate over this and that, things can be anything but peaceful.

Yesterday we saw how God promised the great warrior king of Israel, David, that his son would preside over a time of incredible peace. Now, David had fought so many battles that I’m sure he’d lost count of the number of times that his life and the very future of Israel had hung in the balance.

And yet God promised peace for David’s son and His people. Well, was that promise true? Here’s how things turned out.

All these years later, God’s promise of peace still stands. That’s why Jesus is referred to as the Prince of Peace. And in Him, God’s peace is here, now, for you.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
