God is Your Refuge

Psalm 9:9 Many people are suffering—crushed by the weight of their troubles. But the LORD is a refuge for them, a safe place they can run to.

There are times in life when we need a refuge, a sanctuary, a safe place that offers protection and the space we need to recover, to heal, to get over the stresses that have been plaguing our lives. Yep, we all have times like that.

Have you ever felt crushed by the weight of your troubles? As though one thing after another has piled up on your shoulders until you know you’re at breaking point, until you know that you can’t bear it for one more minute?

Well, you’re not alone. Jesus found Himself precisely at that point in the Garden of Gethsemane hours before He was tried – unjustly – and crucified.

Luke 22:41-44 Then Jesus went about 50 steps away from them. He knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, please don’t make me drink from this cup. But do what you want, not what I want.” Then an angel from heaven came to help him. Jesus was full of pain; he struggled hard in prayer. Sweat dripped from his face like drops of blood falling to the ground.

No, you’re definitely not alone. God Himself has been there. God Himself understands exactly what that’s like. And that’s why God Himself has given you this promise:

Psalm 9:9 Many people are suffering—crushed by the weight of their troubles. But the LORD is a refuge for them, a safe place they can run to.

So, if you’re one of the many people who are suffering, crushed by the weight of your troubles, then know this – Jesus has been there. He understands. And He Himself is your refuge. He Himself is the safe place that you can run to.

The word there literally means “stronghold” – a place of safety, of protection, of healing. Jesus is your safe place.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh
 for you
 today.
