Resurrection Power
Ephesians 1:16-20 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is … the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places. (NRSV)
We’ve been reading over the last few days about overcoming sin – actually living out the victory over sin that Jesus won for us on that cross. We need the power to do that. Serious power.
When it comes to laying hold of that power, many a Christ-follower becomes despondent because it just doesn’t seem to happen in their experience. We do want to honour God because of what Jesus has done, and yet we succumb to the same sin again and again.
It’s quite the dilemma. So, many (most?) come to the conclusion that they’ll never have the power to live out the victory that Jesus promises. Well, I’m here to tell you today, on His behalf, that nothing could be further from the truth.
(NRSV)
In other words, you already have more power than you’ll ever need. Resurrection power: The same power that raised Jesus from the dead – the very power you need to appropriate the freedom over sin that you so long for. And that power becomes real when we choose to believe the Word of God over the devil. That’s where the power is – in God’s Word by His Spirit. For where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Just… believe! The power is already yours.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh… for you… today.
