Run Hard

Philippians 3:13,14 Brothers and sisters, I know that I still have a long way to go. But there is one thing I do: I forget what is in the past and try as hard as I can to reach the goal before me. I keep running hard toward the finish line to get the prize that is mine because God has called me through Christ Jesus to life up there in heaven.

Anyone who’s ever decided to follow Jesus will know that some days your faith can be sky-high. Other days … well, you get the wobbles don’t you? All those mistakes … am I ever going to get there?

The truth is, you’re not alone. It’s happened to me and will no doubt happen again. And without doubt, it’s happened to every man, woman and child who’s ever set their hearts on believing in Jesus and making Him the Lord of their lives – including, by the way, the Apostle Paul who ended up writing almost half the books of the New Testament.

So if you’re feeling just a bit wobbly as you look back on your past, littered as it is with all your mistakes and failures … if that’s eating away at you … here’s God’s Word of encouragement for you today:

Philippians 3:13,14 Brothers and sisters, I know that I still have a long way to go. But there is one thing I do: I forget what is in the past and try as hard as I can to reach the goal before me. I keep running hard toward the finish line to get the prize that is mine because God has called me through Christ Jesus to life up there in heaven.

Yep, Paul knew that he too had a long way to go. So how did he handle that? By leaving the past behind and shifting his focus onto the future. He’s decided to run hard like an athlete; to throw all his energies into reaching the finish line and winning the prize.

Friend, the past is over. It’s done and dusted. You can’t change any of it. Focus on your end game.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
