Sharpen Your Knife
Ecclesiastes 10:10 But wisdom will make any job easier. It is very hard to cut with a dull knife. But if you sharpen the knife, the job is easier.
We tend to think of sharp knives as being dangerous – and they are. But there’s one thing that’s even more dangerous than a sharp knife, and that’s a blunt knife.
One of my pet hates is trying to cut with a blunt knife. I grew up in a house where the knives were always blunt. It drove me crazy. You could never cut through anything properly. And the risk of injury is far higher with a blunt knife because when you have to work so hard at getting the job done, the risk of slipping and hurting yourself goes up exponentially.
So one of the first things I bought my parents when I grew up was a set of really good knives with a sharpening iron. I have a set in my kitchen too. They’re sharp and effective, a joy to work with because they make the job easier, and, as things turn out, I’m not the first person to have that thought.

Here’s the crazy thing. God’s wisdom is ready, willing and able to make our lives easier. Whether it’s thinking through a tough problem, dealing with a difficult relationship … whatever it may be … the Word of God is replete with the wisdom of God. And yet we carry on repeating the same mistakes over and over again, wondering why life is so difficult.
Shouldn’t it be easier than this? Yes, it should – and that’s why God, out of His great love, wants to share His wisdom with the likes of you and me.
Shouldn’t it be easier than this? Yes, it should! Sharpen your knife.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
