Something to Remember
Psalm 16:7,8 I praise the LORD because he taught me well. Even at night he put his instructions deep inside my mind. I always remember that the LORD is with me. He is here, close by my side, so nothing can defeat me.
It’s almost a given that when we’re facing adversity, fighting some battle, in the midst of some mess, we feel completely alone. We may not be, but that’s how it feels.
In fact, the more the intense the battle, the more pain we’re suffering … the further away God seems. The problem we’re facing is so big that God seems ever so small, way off in the distance … if we can see Him at all. Does that sound about right?
And yet, that sense of being alone, separated from a distant God, does not represent the truth. Because the truth is this:
Psalm 16:7,8 I praise the LORD because he taught me well. Even at night he put his instructions deep inside my mind. I always remember that the LORD is with me. He is here, close by my side, so nothing can defeat me.
You and I, we need the Holy Spirit to teach us that truth, to be there with us in the middle of the night as we toss and turn. That’s why it’s so important to be a man or woman of God’s Word, so that we’re prepared when adversity strikes. The truth that needs to be taught us by God, to be written on our hearts – the powerful thing that we need to remember is this: that the Lord is always with me. He is here, close by my side, so nothing can defeat me.
King David wrote those words amidst severe adversity. In that moment, God didn’t seem far away at all because he already knew the truth. Friend, the Lord is always with you!
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
