Standing Up for What’s Right
Proverbs 25:26 Good people who don’t stand strong against evil are like springs that have been polluted or pools that have turned dirty and muddy.
What a bloomin’ mess the world seems to be in right at the moment. I don’t think society has ever been more divided. The gap between rich and poor has never been greater. Where’s it all headed? How does this all end?
I’m not sure any of us can answer those questions. The truth is that God only knows. But here’s something I’ve noticed. As this world seems to be going to hell in a handbag as they say … good people are sitting around, saying nothing and doing nothing.
Unborn children are being torn from their mothers’ wombs and we call it “a woman’s right to choose”. Refugees are being treated like pariahs and held in limbo for years in camps where most of us wouldn’t kennel our dogs. The poor are getting poorer and the rich are getting much, much, much richer.
Are there any simple answers to these and other ills? Probably not. But there is one thing that you and I can do. Instead of cocooning ourselves in luxury and comfort, we can speak up. Instead of buying another latte, we can give out. Instead of wasting our time on trivial pursuits, we can step out and make a difference.
Do you think we should? Here’s God’s take:
Proverbs 25:26 Good people who don’t stand strong against evil are like springs that have been polluted or pools that have turned dirty and muddy.
You know, God doesn’t mince His words, does He? The Jesus whom we Christians purport to worship is the Son of God who hung out with lepers, prostitutes, sinners and the rest of the “scum” of society.
You and I, we can’t solve all the problems of this world. But in our own way, in our own place, God calls us to stand strong against the evil of this generation.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
