Steady as She Goes
Psalm 37:1-4 Don’t get upset about evil people. Don’t be jealous of those who do wrong. They are like grass and other green plants that dry up quickly and then die. So trust in the LORD and do good. Live on your land and be dependable. Enjoy serving the LORD, and he will give you whatever you ask for.
Every now and then things happen – both good things and bad, things that we long for and things that we loathe – that cause us to react. And the more we react, the more of a rollercoaster life becomes.
Personally, I don’t like rollercoasters. Wild horses couldn’t drag me onto one of those rides so I certainly don’t want to live my life like that, full of sharp ups and downs, twists and turns. But when you stand back and think about it, a lot of the roughness of the ride comes down to how we react to things.
Take, for instance, something that gets us all riled up: bad people prospering; bad people seemingly getting away with murder while we’re trying to do good, yet struggling. That can really draw the emotional reaction from you and me. So here’s some powerful, godly wisdom to help smooth out some of those bumpy reactions of ours:
Psalm 37:1-4 Don’t get upset about evil people. Don’t be jealous of those who do wrong. They are like grass and other green plants that dry up quickly and then die. So trust in the LORD and do good. Live on your land and be dependable. Enjoy serving the LORD, and he will give you whatever you ask for.
What’s God calling us to do in response to those evil people? Simply to trust Him and go on doing good. To live on the plot He’s allocated to us and be solid, dependable and consistent – do that with a good heart and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Stop reacting. Be dependable. Do good.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
