Straightening Out a Twisted Mind
Jeremiah 17:9,10 Nothing can hide its evil as well as the human mind. It can be very sick, and no one really understands it. But I am the LORD, and I can look into a person’s heart. I can test a person’s mind and decide what each one should have. I can give each person the right payment for what they do.
Have you ever made a serious blunder along the way and afterwards, when your emotions had settled down, in the cold, hard light of day, you thought to yourself: Why on earth did I do that?
We often struggle to understand our own actions, don’t we? That whole “What was I thinking?” thing, has happened to each one of us over the years and often those blunders have terrible consequences.
You don’t want to end up there again, do you? Me neither! But how do we not end up there again? How do we get our minds straight, our emotions under control, to keep us from making those same mistakes again?
Jeremiah 17:9 Nothing can hide its evil as well as the human mind. It can be very sick, and no one really understands it.
What God’s describing there is the twisted mind. Sometimes our thought-life is sick, and we simply don’t understand how or why we got there.
Jeremiah 17:10 But I am the LORD, and I can look into a person’s heart. I can test a person’s mind and decide what each one should have. I can give each person the right payment for what they do.
Now that’s a double-edged sword. Yes, God can see the evil in our hearts and minds and give us our comeuppance. But He’s also the God who loves us beyond words. And when our minds are twisted, when we don’t understand our own thoughts, God sees it all. God knows it all. When we don’t know, He does. When we don’t understand, He does.
How do we avoid those blunders? By getting His knowing, His understanding, His wisdom, His love into our hearts and minds.
I am the LORD, and I can look into a person’s heart. I can test a person’s mind.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
