Stumble But Don’t Fall
Psalm 37:23-24 The LORD shows us how we should live, and he is pleased when he sees people living that way. If they stumble, they will not fall, because the LORD reaches out to steady them.

Anyone who’s ever set out to lose weight (I think that’s about 90% of the population these days) will know that terrible feeling of falling off the wagon – of having a binge on some junk food. It makes you feel like a complete failure, a complete loser!
And it’s not just with weight loss, it’s in every sphere of life, in every endeavour you set your mind to. At some point you stumble and when you do, you’re tempted to give up. What was a mere stumble can quickly become an almighty fall.
A few years ago, I received an email from a young man. He’d just become a Christian … and then, a few weeks later he went out and got rotten drunk. He felt that he’d completely blown it with God … but then he listened to one of our radio programmes.
This is what he wrote: I knew it was completely over between me and God but then I heard you say that God’s grace is sufficient for me. That’s when I realised, it is! It’s all about what Jesus did for me. It’s as though God spoke directly to me that night.
And that, my friend, is exactly what’s meant to happen; that’s exactly what God promises He’ll do when we stumble:
Psalm 37:23,24 The LORD shows us how we should live, and he is pleased when he sees people living that way. If they stumble, they will not fall, because the LORD reaches out to steady them.
Have you stumbled lately? Have you felt like a complete failure? Then today, God is reaching out to you because that’s what He does. When you stumble, you won’t fall because the Lord will reach out to you, to steady you.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
