Tension without Stress

Psalm 55:22 Give your worries to the LORD, and he will care for you. He will never let those who are good be defeated.

The number one felt need amongst people in society today, is the need to reduce the level of stress in their lives. Over half of all visits to the doctor are stress related.

Tension and stress are running rampant in society today. So many people have so much to do. Always connected, always answering emails. The stress levels are going up and up as we feel more and more like battery hens.

Now, some tension is good. The tension on the strings of a tennis racket, make the ball fly with power. A bit of tension in our lives, helps us to perform to our optimum.

But when we let that tension get us down, when it becomes a burden, that’s when stress kicks in. Stress is our emotional response to too much tension.

So, what’s the answer? Well, we could try turning down the tension. Sure, rest up, take it easy. But that’s not always possible. Sometimes our circumstances can’t immediately be changed. Then what? Well, in the middle of the tension, God still wants us to have His peace. Have a listen. Here’s the antidote to the stress that may be getting you down:

Psalm 55:22 Give your worries to the LORD, and he will care for you. He will never let those who are good be defeated.

When you give your worries to God, when you hand your burdens over to Him and trust Him with them, trust that He will care for you, trust that He will take care of the strife out there for you, then you can still live in the tension, but now, without the stress.

Stress comes when we worry about something. But when you let God worry about it, the burden is lifted and there, right there, you have God’s peace.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

‘Feel good’ products are everywhere, For most of us who ‘need’ so many things it is easy to just buy them, without a lot of thought and without questioning. Often within days what we needed starts to be recognised as something we didn’t really need at all.

God’s gifts are free, even the gift of freedom (from stress, worry, and the lie of scarcity) comes without cost. At times it seems following God’s leading is hard, since we don’t like change. But when we realise the peace and fulfilment welling up in our hearts, a confidence (faith) helps us know that any change that we find difficult has everlasting (and that’s a long time) rewards.

God bless everyone this Christmas, as God’s hope for the world is revealed yet again. Stay true and know you are loved, you belong, and you are enough.

Shalom – Jack
