The Big Picture

Psalm 118:5,6 I was in trouble, so I called to the LORD for help. The LORD answered and made me free. The LORD is with me, so I will not be afraid. No one on earth can do anything to harm me.

We fight so many battles in life. And when you’re in the midst of one, winning seems so incredibly important. Most times, in the scheme of things, it’s not, but that’s how it feels right there in the thick of it.

What battles are you fighting at the moment? A relationship battle, a financial battle; a health battle, or even something within that’s tearing you apart? And you know that you know that it’s absolutely vital that you win.

I was visiting an elderly man with stage four cancer in hospital recently – a man with a deep faith in God. He said to me, “I have so much life left in me. Surely it can’t be my time to die.”

Psalm 118:5,6 I was in trouble, so I called to the LORD for help. The LORD answered and made me free. The LORD is with me, so I will not be afraid. No one on earth can do anything to harm me.

Yep, sometimes we are in trouble and absolutely we can, and should, call to God for help. In His own way, in His own time, He always answers when His people call. But life’s not all about winning temporal battles – battles that, in the scheme of things, won’t end up mattering.

Because one day, both for you and for me, none of them will matter. One day, the only thing that’ll matter is whether you’ve lived your life by trusting Jesus.

Whatever you’re facing – even if it’s life and death, especially then – know this: God is with you, so don’t be afraid. No one on earth can rob you of what He has for you. That’s the big picture.

And that’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
