The Gift of Courage

2 Timothy 1:7 The Spirit God gave us does not make us afraid. His Spirit is a source of power and love and self-control.

In those times when fear strikes your heart – and no, it’s not just you, it happens to all of us eventually – where do you turn? What is it that gets you through?

So, things are all going along fine, but then all of a sudden you hit a wall and it knocks the stuffing out of you. Now, you’re afraid. Now, you want to panic.

Now granted, panic is most often our first response. And okay, as a first response mechanism, it’s not a bad thing. That fight or flight reaction to a threat has been designed into us to keep us safe.

But it’s no way to carry on. A constant state of panic is no way to live your life. What you need is courage to get you through those difficult times. But where do you get that when you’re afraid?

Well, if you believe in Jesus, then “ipso facto” the Spirit of God dwells in you. The very Presence of God is in you. Just let that sink in. And that brings something important into play.

2 Timothy 1:7 The Spirit God gave us does not make us afraid. His Spirit is a source of power and love and self-control.

Fact: God has given you a Spirit of power, a Spirit of love and a Spirit of self-control. His Spirit – the Holy Spirit – God Himself dwelling in you.

When you think about it, that’s precisely what you need when you’re afraid.

There are going to be times when we’re afraid, when you’re afraid. And when that time comes, remember this: the Holy Spirit is right here, right now, right in the place dwelling in you to give you God’s power, love and self-control. He will get you through.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
