The “L” Word
1 John 2:11 But whoever hates their brother or sister is in darkness. They live in darkness. They don’t know where they are going, because the darkness has made them blind.
We live in a disposable society. Look at the packaging they wrap around all the things we buy … straight in the bin. And we live in a society where even relationships have become disposable. Don’t like someone any more, throw them away.
“Love” is a word that gets bandied around rather a lot these days. In fact, over 75 percent of all new songs that are written, are about … L-O-V-E, love. And they sound just great.
But as anyone who’s ever loved someone will tell you, doing love, living it out day by day, well, that’s not such an easy thing to do.
And the reason that doing love is so difficult, is that it’s about imperfect people loving imperfect people. And it’s the imperfections on both sides of the fence that make love such a tough gig.
But here’s the crazy thing! Whenever we start to love someone, we always, always, enter that relationship with this totally unrealistic expectation, that it should be perfect.
But love was never going to be perfect.
And it’s when those imperfections get in the way, when they weigh us down, when they threaten to tear us apart, it’s right there at that point, that love is at its most important. Love one another, even when it hurts. Love another, especially when it hurts.

Who is it in your life, right now, that you’re finding difficult to love? You know you should love them, but somehow, the feeling just isn’t there anymore. Perhaps it hurts to love them. Love them anyway. Bless them anyway … otherwise, you’ll find yourself living in darkness.
