The People You Choose to Trust

Proverbs 11:12-13 Stupid people say bad things about their neighbours. Wise people know to be quiet. People who tell secrets about others cannot be trusted. Those who can be trusted keep quiet.

The plain facts of the matter are that not everyone in this world can be trusted. Not everyone, even amongst those close to you, will keep something you confided to them in confidence. And that can lead to a lot of hurt and regret.

So, I’m driving along the other day behind a van from a globally well-known elevator company with the words “Installation, Maintenance, Refurbishment” right there next to the familiar logo. But right beside that hangs a lopsided number plate that looks like it’s ready to fall off at any moment.

Now imagine that you live high up in a forty storey apartment tower. Question: would you trust this guy to be the one who services your elevator? Probably not, right?! There’s a tell-tale sign there that gives away his attitude toward reliability and attention to detail.

In our own lives, when it comes to trusting others, or at least having the confidence that we can indeed trust them, there are inevitably some tell-tale signs to look out for.

Proverbs 11:12-13 Stupid people say bad things about their neighbours. Wise people know to be quiet. People who tell secrets about others cannot be trusted. Those who can be trusted keep quiet.

Never trust someone who gossips; who tells you things about others that should remain unsaid; who betrays other people behind their backs.

Sure the gossip may be juicy, it may tickle your ears and make your heart race, but you can be certain of this: that that same person will betray you the moment you turn your back!

So who can you trust? Wise people, those who can be trusted keep quiet.

Be discerning. One way or another, look for those tell-tale signs.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
