The Power of Words

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me all of you who are tired from the heavy burden you have been forced to carry. I will give you rest. Accept my teaching. Learn from me. I am gentle and humble in spirit. And you will be able to get some rest. Yes, the teaching that I ask you to accept is easy. The load I give you to carry is light.”

So many people in this world are so tired, so stressed out. Life is so relentless these days. We’re always connected. Always responding. Always having things demanded of us. You can’t keep going like that. Something, something has to give.

Words are powerful things. With just a few words you can cut someone down or build them up; make a lifelong friend or an eternal enemy.

So let’s imagine for a moment that God had something to say to us. To you. To me. I mean, if God spoke something directly to us, that’d be a powerful thing wouldn’t it?

I mean, for instance, if God sent you an invitation, would you accept? Jesus said …

That’s quite some invitation isn’t it? It’s easy to imagine that He’s talking to someone else. But look at the people whom He’s inviting.

Come to me all of you who are tired from carrying heavy burdens.

Have you been carrying heavy burdens? Are you tired? Do you need rest? Then right now, this minute, He’s talking to you. He’s inviting you.

What do you make of that? Jesus inviting you to allow Him to pull alongside – the picture there is of an ox pulling a heavy load and another more experienced, stronger ox coming alongside into the same yoke, to help carry the load.

That’s a powerful thing. An invitation from Jesus to share the load.
So, will you accept or not?

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
