The Promise of Peace

1 Chronicles 22:9 But you have a son who is a man of peace. I will give your son a time of peace. His enemies around him will not bother him. His name is Solomon. And I will give Israel peace and quiet during the time that he is king.

There are many things in this world that promise so much – career, success, money, holidays, that new car, even that new pair of shoes or fresh makeup. But at the end of the day, none of them can give you … peace.

Peace in our lives is something that we each desire. Who wants conflict? Who wants to live with that unsettled feeling? Who wants to be second guessing how they’re going to pay their bills, how they’re going to deal with what tomorrow will bring? Yep, peace is priceless.

And whilst wealth holds out the promise of peace, as the string of wealthy people who’ve taken their own lives attests – movie stars, pop stars, even royals – it’s an empty promise.

So precious a commodity is peace that God promises it to His people again and again throughout His Word. Here he is talking to King David about his son Solomon, who would succeed him on the throne of Israel:

1 Chronicles 22:9 But you have a son who is a man of peace. I will give your son a time of peace. His enemies around him will not bother him. His name is Solomon. And I will give Israel peace and quiet during the time that he is king.

For a nation that’d been through so many battles, for a King like David who, even before ascending the throne, was known as a fierce warrior … the promise of peace must have seemed surreal.

But make absolutely no mistake. This God who loves you beyond words wants to give you His peace.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
