The Recipe for Peace (5)

Colossian 3:17 Everything you say and everything you do should be done for Jesus your Lord. And in all you do, give thanks to God the Father through Jesus.

Peace is about more than dealing with the stuff that happens to you – the people, the circumstances, the challenges … all those externalities. It also involves being comfortable in your own skin; understanding and relishing your place in the universe.

Self-worth is an essential part of experiencing the peace that God wants to give you. And yet, when we compare ourselves to those beautiful, successful, wealthy people out there with their happy marriages and well-adjusted children, we so often come up short.

What I’m able to do – the things that I’m able to contribute to the world – is so small, so insignificant, compared to all those clever people out there.

That’s what happens when we use the world as our yardstick for success. But what if, rather than trying to be like them, rather than playing to that fickle audience out there, we chose to play to an audience of One?

Colossian 3:17 Everything you say and everything you do should be done for Jesus your Lord. And in all you do, give thanks to God the Father through Jesus.

Your worth, my worth, isn’t determined by how we compare to the crowd or what they think us. When we live for that audience of One, our worth simply isn’t in question because we know that Jesus died for us. That’s what we’re worth … that’s what you’re worth!

So, whatever you say, whatever you do … do it for Him. Live your life for Jesus as your Lord. Become more and more like Him … live more and more for Him.

And in all that you do, give thanks to God the Father through Jesus.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
