The Rollercoaster Ride

Psalm 42:8-9 By day the LORD shows his faithful love, and at night I have a song for him—a prayer for the God of my life. I say to God, my Rock, “Why have you forgotten me? Why must I suffer this sadness that my enemies have brought me?”

During those tough times in life, we invariably find ourselves on an emotional rollercoaster. No sooner have you pulled yourself up by your bootstraps than your emotions seem to plummet into the depths of despair.

You might be interested to know that the world’s largest rollercoaster is called “Kingda Ka”. It’s located in a theme park in Jackson, New Jersey in the good old US of A. Kingda Ka launches you from 0 to 128 miles per hour (that’s a bit over 200 kilometres per hour) in just 3.5 seconds.

The first drop is a vertical plunge from a height of 456 feet (139 metres). And as unbelievable as it seems, people actually pay money for this!

Not this little black duck! Hey, in the theme park called ‘life’, we get more than enough thrills and spills on our own emotional roller coaster for free!

And please don’t imagine that you’re immune. No matter how well adjusted, how emotionally stable, how together we think we are, stuff happens, right?

We met this psalmist yesterday so let’s pick him up again to observe his massive vertical drop in the space of just a few words.

Friend that’s how it works – up and down. But remember this. God is with you every second of the ride. Trust Him.

That’s His Word. Fresh
