Those Negative Thoughts
Philippians 4:13 Christ is the one who gives me the strength I need to do whatever I must do.
All too often, when faced with uncertainty, we allow our imagination to race of into the negativity of all the things that could possibly go wrong. And there’s not a single time in your life or mine, when that negativity has ever had a positive impact. Am I right?
Uncertainty is a powerful force in our lives. On the one hand, it has a positive side. Storytellers use uncertainty to entertain us. The best movies play on our emotions, through this powerful medium, through the tension, of uncertainty. And we find sport exciting and entertaining for the same reason; the uncertainty, not knowing who’s going to win, has us on the edge of our seats.
But in real life, most people don’t cope well without knowing how things are going to turn out. Uncertainty, as it turns out, is the breeding ground for negative thinking.
“This is never going to work. I just know that the test results are going to be bad.” On and on it goes. And by entertaining those negative thoughts, by wallowing in them, we’re actually rejecting the power of God in our lives.
How often have you allowed your negative thoughts to trump your belief in God? How often have you believed more in the bad things that could happen, than you did in the God who loves you and cares for you?
If all that sounds just a little bit too familiar, then receive this into your heart:
Philippians 4:13 Christ is the one who gives me the strength I need to do whatever I must do.
No matter what you’re facing, no matter how awful things get, whether people behave well or badly, whether the medical tests come back with good news or with bad, Jesus will give you the strength you need, to do whatever it is that He’s leading you through. No “ifs”. No “buts”. No “maybes”.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
Let me tell you, your enemy the devil loves to feed you negative thoughts during those times of uncertainty. Oh yeah.
